Temple of the Dawn

The Temple of the Dawn, otherwise referred to as Wat Arun, is very popular among travelers landmark of Bangkok. Consisting of 5 prangs (a kind of Khmer built towers) – a large one in the middle, and the other four around it. The prang (spire) is between 80 and 105 meters in height and is embellished with porcelain. This material was historically used to ballast ships arriving in Bangkok, which is characteristic of King Rama III’s reign.

Ask any travel agency in Thailand and they'll absolutely agree that Wat Arun is one of the most beautifully-structured temples in Thailand.

The history of this temple goes back to the 17th century, although its extraordinary spires are said to be built on the reign of King Rama II in the 19th century.
