Wat Mahathat

buddha statu packagetour cheaphotel tour thailand traveler vacation hotelIn the vicinity of the fine arts Silpakom University, the Thammasat University of Law and Sciences, as well as the Grand Palace, there is the antique Wat Mahathat or Temple of the Great Relive. It had been built in the 18th century before Bangkok was established. In its later days, the temple was renovated by King Rama IV, who earlier had been a monk in that temple.

Serving as an educational center of the Mahanikai Buddhist School, it is well-known among its followers throughout Southeast Asia. Today, the school also offers meditation classes to travelers. Though large in size, much of the temple’s space is occupied by teaching rooms and offices. This temple is also recommended by every travel agency in Thailand.

Every time there's a Buddhist event or celebration, an open-air market can be seen within the temple's vicinity. They offer a wide-range of traditional Thai medicines usually in a form of a root or plant.
