Hin Phnom Rung a pinkish sandstone sanctuary on inactive volcano peak.
Prasat Phnom Rung stands impressively at the top of an extinct volcano, Phu Phnom Rung. Its
construction on a high place carries on the customary practice based on a local belief which worshipped the supernatural powers of the sacred mountains.
Prasat Phnom Rung was built around the 16th-17th centuries B.E. The approach to the main tower is from
the east. The plan was systematically laid out, with the doorways of the galleries directly in front of the porticos of the prasat on all four sides.
The plan that harmonizes with its terraced location results in an elegant site suitable to be the abode
of god Shiva.
The irrigation system, with three barai or reservoirs, suggest the large size of the Phnom Rung
community.
